Fwd: Family garden is finished!!!

Our garden is now 98% all planted. I just need to finish an herb box and then we will be done..... with the planting part. :) In the end its 40 Rail Road Ties, 150 feet of fencing, 5 cubic yards of dirt, Lots of man hours from both grandparents and our whole family. A full supply of Tomatoes (regular, grape and Roma), Peppers (hot and sweet), Red Onions, Chives, Raddishes, Beets, Carrots, Swiss Chard, Zuchinni, Yellow squash, Cucumbers, Cantelope, Pumpkins, Pole Beans, Peas, Strawberries, Blackberries and Raspberries (Thank you for the donations Petersons!) not to mention 5 fruit trees (Green apple, Cherry, Apricot, Peach and Plum)  We better get some good end results, now all I need to do is keep up on the watering and weeding.

I hope to keep on putting down grass as a weed barrier (thats what is yellow and bright green in the photos) between my rows and then around the plants when they are bigger. The squash trellises come from an idea I saw online and I liked the idea that vertical gardening allows you to do more with your square footage and it helps you see the fruit better so that you don't end up with a monster zuchinni hidding under the leaves. The pole bean structure was also from the Petersons, so cool! I am debating using this for Peas next year and building a bean tee-pee for the kids...still working on that idea.

I love that my kids get excited to work in the garden with us, its been a Monday night FHE and Saturday Family project for quite some time now.

Happy Planting everyone!
Ann
